Where AvenSci introduces waivers, discounts, institutional agreements or funder-specific arrangements, eligibility will be assessed transparently and separately from editorial merit.
Authors should identify known funder or institutional Open Access requirements at proposal stage where possible.
Any approved reduction is documented in the publishing offer and does not affect editorial evaluation.
Where a university, grant or institution pays the charge, the publication agreement still governs the scholarly relationship.

Publication charges, where applicable, depend on the publication type, the selected publishing model and the services agreed for the project. All applicable fees and contractual conditions must be communicated before the relevant parties enter into a binding agreement.
Payment does not guarantee acceptance, favourable peer review or publication. Scientific and editorial decisions remain independent of financial considerations.
AvenSci Publishing offers three publishing models designed to accommodate different academic objectives, accessibility requirements and funding possibilities. Every project is subject to scientific assessment, and all financial arrangements are agreed before a binding publishing commitment.

Important: The selected financial model does not influence scientific assessment or peer-review decisions. Publication fees, royalties, copyright, licensing terms and responsibilities are established in the relevant publishing agreement.
AvenSci considers both commercially distributed scholarly publications and eligible Open Access projects. These models differ primarily in how access to the published work is provided and financed.
Under a commercial publishing arrangement, readers may purchase complete books or individual chapters where this option is available. Commercial publication does not automatically require authors to pay publication charges. Any exceptional editorial or production services subject to separate fees must be agreed in advance.
Under an Open Access arrangement, the designated publication is made available to readers without an individual purchase barrier. Its preparation and publication may be financed through agreed publication charges, institutional support, research funding or other suitable arrangements.
Commercial and Open Access conditions, including any applicable charges, copyright provisions and licensing arrangements, are established through the relevant publishing agreement.
AvenSci Publishing believes that authors and Book Editors should receive fair compensation for the commercial success of their publications.
Under our standard commercial publishing model, eligible authors or Book Editors receive 15% of net receipts from qualifying book sales, subject to the terms of the publishing agreement.
Royalties may apply to eligible sales of printed books, e-books and other agreed commercial publication formats. The agreement specifies the royalty beneficiaries, calculation basis, reporting arrangements and payment conditions.
Our objective is to ensure that authors and Book Editors continue to benefit financially from eligible book sales throughout the applicable contractual period.
For Open Access publications, any royalties arising from separately marketed commercial editions are defined in the relevant publishing agreement. Publication charges and author royalties are separate financial arrangements.
A Book Publication Charge (BPC) may apply to the Open Access publication of a complete scientific book, research monograph or eligible edited volume.
Where applicable, the charge may reflect the length and complexity of the manuscript, editorial coordination requirements, professional typesetting, digital preparation, quality control and agreed dissemination services.
The scope and amount of any proposed BPC must be specified in a written quotation or publishing agreement before contractual commitment.
For commercially distributed books, AvenSci does not impose an automatic publication charge as a condition of submitting a proposal or obtaining editorial consideration.
A Chapter Publication Charge (CPC) may apply where an individual scholarly chapter is published in Open Access under an eligible chapter-level publishing arrangement.
Chapter-level Open Access may be considered within an edited volume where the relevant publishing model, copyright permissions and contractual conditions permit this approach.
The applicable CPC, if any, may take account of the chapter's production requirements, figures, tables, digital preparation and other agreed services.
Individual chapter authors and Book Editors must be informed of the applicable financial and licensing arrangements before contractual commitment. Payment of a CPC does not guarantee acceptance of a chapter.
AvenSci may consider the publication of eligible doctoral theses, research dissertations and thesis-derived scholarly works, subject to editorial assessment and the availability of the rights necessary for publication.
A thesis may be considered for commercial publication or Open Access dissemination, depending on its scientific relevance, editorial condition, copyright status and the publishing arrangement agreed with the author.
Thesis Publication Charges (TPCs) may apply where Open Access publication or specifically agreed editorial and production services require dedicated funding. Such services may include manuscript restructuring, language or presentation improvements, professional typesetting, preparation of figures and tables, digital conversion and publication-related quality control.
Commercial thesis publication does not automatically involve an author-paid publication charge. Where AvenSci and the author agree to additional substantial editorial or production services, any associated fee must be identified and accepted before the work begins.
Authors must disclose prior repository deposits, institutional publication requirements, third-party rights, confidentiality restrictions and any embargo affecting the original thesis.
Where commercial royalties are applicable, their calculation and payment conditions are established separately in the publishing agreement. Any publication or service charge must not be confused with author royalties.
AvenSci may provide publication arrangements for scientific conferences, academic meetings, symposia, workshops and other scholarly events.
Eligible outputs may include conference proceedings, collections of full papers, abstract books, extended abstracts and other scientifically organised conference volumes.
Conference Publication Charges may be determined at project level according to the number and nature of contributions, total manuscript length, editorial and production complexity, required digital formats and agreed publication services.
Depending on the arrangement, the contracting party may be a conference organiser, academic society, institution, research organisation or another authorised sponsor.
Conference publication services may involve the preparation of a complete volume, standardisation of accepted contributions, editorial coordination, metadata preparation, typesetting, digital production and online dissemination.
The conference organiser or designated academic editors remain responsible for clearly defining the scientific selection procedures and the status of included contributions. AvenSci must be informed of the assessment arrangements and retains responsibility for determining whether the material is suitable for publication under its imprint.
A conference publication may be commercially distributed or made available in Open Access, according to the agreed contractual and licensing conditions.
Any quotation must define the number and types of deliverables, services included, responsibilities, deadlines and applicable financial conditions before contractual commitment.
Depending on the agreed project, publication charges may contribute to editorial administration, manuscript coordination, professional typesetting, figure and table preparation, digital conversion, production quality control and online publication.
Other agreed services may include bibliographic metadata preparation, accessibility-related production measures, preparation of supplementary material and coordination of publication-ready files.
Not all services are included automatically. Each quotation or agreement should identify the deliverables covered, the applicable limitations and any work requiring separate authorisation.
Services involving exceptional manuscript restructuring, extensive language editing, substantial changes after acceptance or unusually complex production requirements may be subject to separate written agreement.
AvenSci maintains a clear separation between financial arrangements and academic editorial decisions.
Submissions are assessed according to scientific relevance, scholarly quality, intellectual coherence, integrity and suitability for the proposed publication.
Peer-review arrangements may differ for authored books, edited volumes, individual chapters, theses and conference outputs. The applicable assessment model is determined according to the project and AvenSci's editorial policies.
Neither the payment of a publication charge nor the availability of institutional or conference funding guarantees acceptance, favourable assessment or publication.
Book Editors, reviewers and conference academic committees may contribute recommendations within their responsibilities, while AvenSci retains final publisher responsibility for publication decisions.
AvenSci does not charge a fee merely for submitting an initial publication proposal for editorial consideration.
Submitting a proposal does not create a contractual obligation to purchase publishing services and does not guarantee that the proposed work will be accepted.
If a project requires chargeable editorial or production services, the relevant conditions must be communicated and agreed before those services are undertaken.
Authors, Book Editors and conference organisers should not make payments on the assumption that a submitted proposal has already been approved for publication.
Where publication charges apply, AvenSci will communicate the proposed financial arrangements through a quotation, publishing agreement or other appropriate written contractual documentation.
Funding may be provided by authors, Book Editors, universities, research institutions, funders, conference organisers, scholarly societies or other authorised sponsoring bodies, depending on the project.
The identity and responsibilities of the contracting and paying parties should be established clearly before a financial commitment is made.
Authors and organisers are responsible for checking whether the proposed publishing model, licence and expenditure meet the requirements of their institution, funder or sponsor.
Where an adjustment, discount or alternative financing arrangement is agreed, its conditions should be documented before invoicing.
Applicable charges will be invoiced in accordance with the agreed contractual conditions and the legal and tax requirements relevant to the transaction.
Invoices should identify the contracted services, applicable amounts, payment conditions and any relevant taxes or exemptions.
Payment schedules, deposits, staged payments or other agreed arrangements must be specified in the relevant quotation or contract where applicable.

No publication charge is payable merely because an initial proposal has been submitted or declined during preliminary editorial consideration.
Where chargeable services have been expressly commissioned and performed, any applicable payment obligations or refund conditions must be determined under the agreed contractual provisions and relevant law.
Where publication cannot proceed, AvenSci will assess the contractual circumstances and communicate any applicable adjustment, credit note or refund arrangements.
Authors, Book Editors and conference organisers should review the relevant withdrawal and cancellation provisions before entering into a binding agreement.
Publication charges and copyright arrangements are distinct matters. Payment of a charge does not automatically transfer copyright ownership or establish unrestricted rights to reuse the published material.
For Open Access publications, the applicable Creative Commons or other agreed licence will determine the conditions under which readers may access, share, reproduce or adapt the content.
For commercial publications, rights relating to distribution, reproduction, electronic access and other forms of exploitation must be defined in the relevant publishing agreement.
Authors and organisers remain responsible for identifying third-party material requiring permissions and any institutional restrictions affecting the work.
