EDITORIAL STANDARDS
Independence, conflicts and integrity must remain explicit
Academic leadership does not remove the need for conflict controls, fair contributor treatment and publisher-level oversight.
Fair assessmentContributions should be considered on scholarly merit and relevance.
Conflict disclosureEditors must disclose relationships that could reasonably affect judgement.
Reviewer independenceReviewers should have suitable expertise and no disqualifying conflicts.
Escalation of concernsPlagiarism, authorship disputes or citation manipulation must be referred to AvenSci.
Academic leadership
Editors are expected to define a coherent scientific scope, select qualified contributors, maintain academic standards and coordinate the project according to the agreed timetable.
Fair and independent editorial practice
Editors must assess contributions on scholarly merit and relevance. Personal, institutional, commercial or competitive interests must not improperly influence decisions.
Conflicts of interest
Editors should disclose relationships that could reasonably be perceived as affecting their judgement. Where a significant conflict exists, another qualified editor or AvenSci representative should oversee the relevant decision.
Peer review
Where external review is required, editors should recommend or select reviewers with suitable expertise and no disqualifying conflicts. Reviewer identities and reports must be handled according to the review model defined for the project.
Edited books
For multi-author books, editors coordinate the volume while individual chapters may progress independently through submission, review, revision and decision. Editors should monitor consistency across chapters without compromising chapter-level scholarly assessment.
Integrity concerns
Suspected plagiarism, fabricated or manipulated material, authorship disputes, citation manipulation or other integrity concerns must be referred to AvenSci rather than handled informally.
Final responsibility
Academic editors make an essential scholarly contribution, but AvenSci retains final publisher responsibility for acceptance, rejection, ethics actions and publication.
