The publishing journey

1. Proposal

Submit the core information about your project, its scientific rationale, intended readership, authorship or editorial team, proposed structure and expected manuscript schedule.

2. Editorial assessment

We assess fit, originality, scientific relevance, coherence, feasibility and potential value to the intended community. We may request additional information or revisions to the proposal.

3. Review and publishing decision

Depending on the project, external peer review may be applied to the proposal, complete manuscript, selected chapters or individual chapters. A publishing offer is made only after the required assessment has been completed satisfactorily.

4. Manuscript preparation

Authors prepare the manuscript according to AvenSci guidelines. For edited books, the book editor coordinates chapter contributors while each chapter can progress through its own submission, review and revision workflow.

5. Production and proofs

Accepted content enters production for copyediting, layout, metadata preparation, identifiers, multiformat conversion and proof correction. Authors or editors review proofs before final approval.

6. Publication and dissemination

Final publications may be delivered in PDF, EPUB 3 and HTML where appropriate. Metadata, previews, access conditions and purchasing options are prepared for the public platform.

Open access and commercial publishing

Projects may be published under an open-access or commercial model. Edited books can also support chapter-level access decisions where agreed. Any applicable publication charge, licence and commercial conditions are communicated before commitment.

Ready to propose a project?

Prepare a concise description of the project, provisional title, scope, intended audience, table of contents, author/editor information and expected delivery date. Submission to AvenSci Editorial System will be the formal starting point for editorial evaluation.
