About AvenSci Publishing
AvenSci Publishing is an independent scientific publisher specialising in scholarly books, edited volumes and research-based publications in the life and biomedical sciences, with an emphasis on scientific integrity, editorial responsibility and transparent publishing practices.
Advancing Scholarly Communication in Life and Biomedical Sciences
AvenSci Publishing is an independent scientific publisher dedicated to the development and dissemination of scholarly books and research-based publications, with a particular focus on the life and biomedical sciences.
Our publishing programme aims to support meaningful scientific contributions through rigorous editorial assessment, responsible scholarly evaluation, professional production and accessible dissemination.
Scientific books play a distinctive role in academic communication. They bring together established evidence, methodological advances, emerging perspectives and interdisciplinary knowledge in ways that extend beyond individual research articles.
AvenSci welcomes proposals for authored monographs, edited volumes, scholarly book chapters, thesis-derived monographs, conference proceedings, abstract collections, book series and thematic publications.
Our Mission
Our mission is to facilitate the responsible publication and dissemination of scientific knowledge by combining academic expertise, editorial accountability, personalised author support and accessible publishing technologies.
We seek to provide researchers and academic Book Editors with a publishing environment in which scientific objectives, intellectual structure, intended readership and publication conditions are clearly defined from the beginning.
Our ambition is to develop an independent publishing house recognised for the quality of its publications, the transparency of its procedures and its constructive relationships with the scientific community.
Our Approach: Quality Before Quantity
As an emerging independent publisher, AvenSci believes that long-term scientific credibility must be built through the quality of its publications, the integrity of its editorial decisions and the confidence of its authors and readers.
Rather than pursuing rapid catalogue expansion, our initial priority is to develop a carefully selected publishing programme based on scholarly relevance, scientific coherence and professional editorial standards.
We aim to establish meaningful collaborations with qualified researchers, academic Book Editors and independent reviewers. Our scientific network and editorial advisory arrangements will develop progressively as the publishing programme grows.
Scientific expertise and editorial responsibilities should be genuine and clearly defined. AvenSci does not regard the association of prestigious names with a publication as a substitute for rigorous scholarly assessment.
Personalised Support for Authors and Book Editors
We recognise that preparing a scientific book can be a complex undertaking, particularly for early-career researchers, first-time authors and academics coordinating multi-author volumes.
AvenSci aims to provide clear guidance and direct editorial communication throughout the publishing process, from the initial proposal to manuscript preparation, scholarly assessment, production and publication.
Our approach emphasises:
- Individual guidance: Helping authors and Book Editors understand publication requirements and editorial expectations.
- Transparent procedures: Explaining assessment stages, responsibilities and possible editorial outcomes.
- Constructive scientific evaluation: Encouraging meaningful feedback and appropriate manuscript revisions.
- Professional production: Preparing scholarly publications in suitable digital and, where agreed and available, printed formats.
- Fair publishing conditions: Defining publication charges, royalties, rights and contractual responsibilities before binding commitment.
We believe that attentive editorial support, combined with scientific rigour, can make an important contribution to the experience of publishing a scholarly book.
Scientific Scope and Editorial Assessment
AvenSci's primary areas of interest encompass the life sciences, biomedical research and related interdisciplinary fields.
Proposals are considered in relation to their scientific significance, originality of approach, methodological foundations, engagement with the relevant literature and suitability for their intended academic or professional audience.
For edited volumes, particular attention is given to the coherence of the proposed thematic framework, the relationship between individual contributions and the capacity of the editorial team to coordinate a scientifically consistent publication.
Editorial assessment may involve subject-specific expertise and independent peer review, according to the nature, scope and requirements of the proposed work.
A favourable preliminary assessment does not guarantee final manuscript acceptance. Publication remains subject to the applicable scientific evaluation, editorial decision and contractual conditions.
Our Publishing Principles
Scientific integrity. Research findings, interpretations and scholarly claims must be presented accurately, with appropriate references, transparent attribution and due consideration of relevant ethical requirements.
Editorial independence. Scientific assessment and publication decisions remain independent of commercial arrangements. Payment of publication charges does not guarantee acceptance.
Quality and accountability. Publications should meet scholarly standards appropriate to their subject, format and intended readership.
Transparency. Authors and Book Editors should receive clear information about editorial responsibilities, manuscript requirements, review procedures, publication conditions, rights and any applicable charges.
Responsible authorship. Contributors should appropriately acknowledge authorship, intellectual responsibility, institutional affiliations, funding and third-party material.
Accessibility and discoverability. Publications should be supported by accurate bibliographic information, structured metadata and appropriate digital formats.
Fair remuneration. Commercial publishing agreements should provide clearly defined royalty arrangements that allow eligible authors and Book Editors to benefit from qualifying book sales.
A Sustainable Mixed Publishing Model
AvenSci combines traditional commercial publishing with funded Open Access options, according to the scientific objectives, access requirements and financing available for each project.
Traditional commercial publishing: Under our standard model, AvenSci covers ordinary publication costs without requiring mandatory author-paid publication charges. Revenue is generated through eligible print and digital book sales. Eligible authors or Book Editors receive royalties of 15% of net receipts from qualifying sales, according to their publishing agreement.
Funded Gold Open Access: Eligible publications may be made freely available to readers when production costs are covered through Book Publication Charges (BPCs), Chapter Publication Charges (CPCs), research grants, institutional support or other agreed funding arrangements.
Diamond Open Access: In the longer term, AvenSci aims to develop partnerships with universities, research institutions and scholarly societies to support publication without fees for authors or readers. This model can be considered only when sufficient external funding covers the agreed publication costs.
Our objective is to make scientific knowledge as accessible as possible without compromising editorial quality or the financial sustainability of the publishing house.
Further information is available on our Open Access and Publication Charges pages.
Editorial Collaboration and Responsibilities
AvenSci works with authors, academic Book Editors and reviewers in distinct but complementary roles.
Authors are responsible for the scientific content of their contributions, the accuracy of supporting information and compliance with applicable authorship, research integrity and permissions requirements.
Book Editors coordinate the intellectual development of edited volumes, including their thematic scope, contributing chapters, communication with authors and scientific consistency within their assigned responsibilities.
Reviewers provide independent scholarly assessments appropriate to the publication, considering scientific relevance, methodological soundness, evidentiary support and clarity.
AvenSci Publishing retains responsibility for its publishing decisions and coordinates the relevant editorial, contractual, production and dissemination activities.
Our editorial collaborations and advisory structures will be developed progressively, with clearly defined responsibilities and appropriate scientific expertise.
From Proposal to Publication
AvenSci follows a structured publishing process designed to make the main stages understandable to authors and Book Editors:
- Proposal submission.
- Initial editorial assessment.
- Publishing offer and agreement.
- Manuscript preparation.
- Peer review and revisions.
- Final editorial decision.
- Production and proof approval.
- Publication and distribution.
The requirements and sequence may be adapted to the publication type. A proposal accepted for further development is not automatically a manuscript accepted for publication.
A detailed explanation and illustrated overview are available on our Publish with Us page.
Digital Publishing and Scholarly Dissemination
AvenSci is developing a digital-first publishing environment designed to support structured editorial management, professional book production and the dissemination of scholarly works in appropriate electronic formats.
Our publication framework supports book-level and chapter-level metadata, bibliographic information, abstracts, contributor details and clearly specified access and licensing conditions.
PDF, EPUB 3 and HTML form part of our multiformat publishing approach, with attention to readability, accessibility and compatibility with scholarly research workflows.
Where applicable, ISBNs and Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) may be incorporated into publication records when the necessary registration arrangements are operational.
Printed editions and print-on-demand distribution may be offered according to the services available and the terms agreed for individual publications.
Publishing with AvenSci
We invite researchers, academic authors and prospective Book Editors to submit proposals demonstrating a clearly defined scientific purpose, a coherent intellectual structure and a meaningful contribution to their field.
Proposals should identify the subject and objectives of the work, its intended readership, its relationship to existing scientific literature and, where relevant, the proposed chapter structure and contributing authors.
Initial consideration does not constitute acceptance for publication. Projects proceed according to the applicable editorial assessment, scientific evaluation and contractual requirements.
Through this approach, AvenSci Publishing aims to build a sustainable scholarly publishing programme grounded in scientific relevance, editorial responsibility, personalised support and transparent relationships with the research community.
